“Land sale” lands accused fraudster in court

first_imgNeil Benjamin was on Friday slapped with two counts of fraud and appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Benjamin admitted to one of the charges but denied the other after it was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.The prosecution is contending that on April 27, 2018, while in the vicinity of Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, he falsely obtained $250,000 from Shelly-Ann Peters by falsely pretending that he could acquire a plot of land for her. To this charge he admitted.The other charge stated that on April 24, 2018, also in the vicinity of Vlissengen Road, he again falsely obtained $253,000 from the said Peters for the same purpose. He however denied this charge.In answering the guilty plea, Benjamin told the Magistrate that the “money was not for the purchase of a land.”As such, a not guilty plea was entered. He was granted bail in the sum of $60,000 on each charge.The matter will continue on July 20.last_img
