The principal, two teachers and the hostel warden of a Holy Cross school in north Tripura were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the death of a Class X student. Police charged hostel warden Borchung Halam of causing injuries to Happy Debbarma, leading to his death. Halam is accused of torturing Happy Debbarma at the boys’ hostel premises of the Holy Cross school at Kumarghat in Unakoti district on September 22. The victim latter succumbed to his injuries at the GBP Hospital in Agartala.The incident angered different social groups that staged street protests to press demand for arrest of the culprits and ensure justice for the victim’s family. Though police were accused of showing reluctance initially, they made arrests on Tuesday.“All connected people wanted in investigation have been arrested,” Additional Superintendent of Police of Unakoti district Ranaditya Das told the Hindu. The detainees are Principal Fr. Lency, teachers Fr. Joe Paul and Fr. Alfred, and hostel Warden Borchung Halam.Halam who was picked up from an area in west Tripura was charged with murder.
